Description
2-D hard enamel pin on a base of silvery metal. At the back the close consists of 2 cap clasps fitted with a coil spring. The Icmm is 40mm long and 19,4mm high.
The Icmm (InterCityMaterial Modern) is the revised version of the Icm (InterCityMaterial) and while the Icmm wasn't around on the dutch tracks until 2006, the Icm has been roaming around the track since 1977. The Icm was mostly known for the interlocking "heads" of the trains which allowed people to cross over from one trainset to the other during the ride. It is because of these so called walk-through heads that the Icm was granted the official nickname of "Koploper" which translates as headwalker. Despite the huge succes among passenger and (catering) personell alike, the dutch railways decided to permanently close off these walkthrough heads due to the many issues that arose during coupling and de-coupling of the trains, cause of many a delay. The high rate at which the parts of this walkthrough construction wore down was another reason. During the revision in 2005/2006 when the Icm turned into the Icmm the contruction of the walk-through heads was removed and the doors were replaced with a solid synthetic plate.
With the successor of the Icmm already waiting in the wings in the form of the Icng (InterCity New Generation) the Icmm will slowly but surely start dissapearing from our views, but we can still enjoy it for the time being.
